- Abstract
This paper presents a study of the mechanical characteristics of composite materials reinforced with carbon fibres in epoxy matrix. The experimental data of the carbon/epoxy composites indicate a high value of the tensile strength. Those values are compared with steel characteristics but the density of this is seven times less. The delamination phenomenon was found in the tensile, compression and flexion load states. This has required a study on the delamination testing. The analysis found out the maximum value of the force at which delamination occurs, without propagating cracks. The purpose of this work is to contribute to the realization of a data base with data for the mechanical behaviour of the fibre reinforced polymers. In this paper there are also presented the used materials for plates, the manufacturing process, procedures, laboratory equipment and the experimental results.
