- Abstract
An essay is presented examining the history and theory of the Maronite Church's chant music. Details are given overviewing the history and culture of the Maronite Christian tradition from late Antiquity to the present. The primary features of Maronite chant are described. The developed history of Maronite chant from antiquity to the 20th century is reviewed. Particular attention is given to the contrasting styles and practices of 20th-century Maronite chant with its older predecessors.
