- Abstract
The present study analyses how students' perceive innovative classroom practices being used in their classes to make education stress free. The objective of the study is to know the different innovative methods introduced recently, to understand their practicability, usability and analyse whether these methods are helping to make education stressfree or simply adding to the woes of students by adding to their workload. For the present study, 50 students were chosen studying in 7th and 8th standard in top rung CBSE schools of Delhi. A semi-structured schedule was prepared to judge students' responses, which were duly recorded for content analysis. Results revealed that classroom practices have undergone a distinct change, especially after schools have been compelled to adopt CBSE directive of Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation. Now the schools are embracing methods that promote holistic development of the child. However there are many unresolved issues associated too. Students perceive these classroom practices as being beneficial for them but also seem skeptical about teacher biases (as there are no fixed standards of evaluation), future competition (studies get neglected) and expenses incurred. On one hand they seem happy with the increased activities of the classroom on the other hand they complain about the increased workload and HW. It is suggested that the implementation of these innovative practices should be undertaken with utmost care and within the classroom so that students do not carry the burden of projects and assignments back home.
