- Abstract
Ernst Romanovich von Stern, a prominent archaeologist of late 19th - early 20th century, was also known as a reputed epigraphist. It was him, who published the Olbian proxeny and other inscriptions, Latin and Greek, which were preserved in the Museum of Society of History and Antiquities of Odessa. He published the inscriptions, found during the excavations in Olbia and Berezan, between them the consacrations to Achilles Pontarchus, and the inscriptions, made by religious communities of Panticapaeum and Theodosia. By publishing the graffiti and amphora stamps, E. R. von Stern was the first in the native classic scolarship, who attracted attention of contemporary erudites to the importance of these sources. This article reveals this aspect of his scientific activity, which until now has been little covered in historiography.
