- Abstract
Despite continuous increase of urban population, the interest for a balanced development in rural areas remains important envisaging a broader range of solutions for wellbeing within the constraints of environmental protection and resource management. The small agricultural holding (SAH) does not find its place within the economic context outlined by industrial agriculture and globalization through standardization and hypermarkets that dominate the food market. A model for the SAH revitalization is built by considering the richness of natural resources and innovative management approaches. The model aims to increase the wellbeing of rural population by changing the patterns of the value chains related to agricultural production and by building new value chains able to use the variety and richness of natural resources that are available within the rural space. Cooperation, processing of agricultural yields to deliver food products, development of supply chains and growth of non-agricultural activities are the core elements of the model.
