- Abstract
The article describes several community-based arts in health projects in schools and disadvantaged communities in Northern England that relate with the interdisciplinary research interests of the Centre for Medical Humanities at Durham University. It examines how community-based arts in health is applicable in a broader policy context of education, social cohesion, and public health. The use of handmade lanterns in Great Britain for celebratory processions was used as an example. It is mentioned that there is still fertile ground on which arts in community health and university research can engage despite the current economic climate on austerity.
