- Abstract
In order to expand the options of potassium fertilizer management for melon producers, the research aimed to evaluate the effects of application methods and potassium doses on the yellow melon grown in the coastal region of Ceará state. The experiment was conducted at Fortaleza, Ceará state, Brazil in which the experimental design was randomized blocks in factorial 2x4 with four repetitions and six plants. The treatments consisted of two application methods (manual incorporation in soil and fertigation by drip irrigation) and four potassium doses (0; 90; 180; 360 kg ha-1). The assessment was made of the fruit for the variables: mass, polar diameter and equatorial, business productivity, thickness of the shell and pulp, soluble solids and pulp firmness. The higher average values of polar diameter (17.82 cm) and soluble solids (10.43 °Brix) in the two fertilization methods were obtained with 222 and 258 kg ha-1 of K2O doses, respectively. The fertigation with 360 kg ha-1 of K2O improved productivity by 23.1% over fertilizer application (30.1 t ha-1 vs. 24.9 t ha-1). Concerning to maximum estimated productivity, fertigation with 360 kg ha-1 of K2O also overcame fertilizer application by 14.4% (30.92 t ha-1 vs. 27.0 t ha-1).
