- Abstract
In this paper, I argue that real utopias may prove helpful to broaden our horizons and rise above our current blindness. If we are to address the social and ecological crisis we are facing, we must set in motion major transformations that will affect virtually every sphere of social life. Certainly, we cannot expect our socio-economic systems to come out unscathed. It is time to renounce our unwavering faith in the present social and economic structures as the only possible ones. In the effort to redefine our societies so that they become socially just and ecologically sustainable, the ability to imagine and outline desirable futures seems Indispensable. The search for alternatives will also facilitate the urgent task of tracing the steps that can take us from here to there.
