- Abstract
The article focuses on the history of early Jewish community of Los Angeles, California. It discusses immigration of Jews as early as in 1650s to the U.S. to flee from oppression and also as a part of exercising their American right to make a pioneer community in the new country. Topic include history of German Jewish merchants settling in Los Angeles, Joseph Newmark's establishment of Hebrew Benevolent Society and Jewish services in Los Angeles.
