- Title
Class and voting consistency in Canada: Analyses bearing on the mobilization thesis.
- Authors

- Abstract
This paper uses resource mobilization theory to evaluate the extent to which a multi- dimensional measure of the Marxian class concept, various dimensions of stratification, and socio-demographic variables predicts the "voting consistency" of the Canadian electorate, using samples of respondents in three federal elections. Results show that social class has an independent impact upon various consistency measures of the class vote. Further, social class, unionization, identification with the working class, and residence in Western Canada predict consistent voting support for the New Democratic Party. The analyses point to the importance of class mobilization and the organizational power of the social class categories in explaining the Canadian electorate's voting behaviour.
