- Abstract
This article aims to define the concept of gender, taking into account its historical process, together with its social construction, being aware of the panorama of the theme in the field of International Relations. In addition, the essay will deal with the colonization of India by the British Empire, carried out through the East India Company, seeking to relate this to the marginalization of hijras, who are transgender women in the country. Finally, the article will present who these women are, also known as the third gender in India, in addition to explaining the social, cultural and religious context in which these women are inserted.
