- Abstract
The article discusses research study on general practitioners' (GP) direct access to magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for suspected knee ligament and meniscal injuries. The study examined the effect of providing GPs with early access to MRI of the knee compared with referral to an orthopaedic specialist in terms of diagnoses and treatment plans, patient outcome and cost effectiveness. Results discussed are the clinical indications for MRI, MRI findings and GP referral to outpatient appointment.
