- Abstract
This article discusses the role of memory in the creation of the French-Canadian ethnic identity. Memory in the form of a national collective consciousness is examined, including the influence of the identification with the physical land as well as the historical narrative passed down through the generations. The work "Le petit mangeur de fleurs" by Normand Beaupré is specifically studied. Other themes of the article include the Quebecois language, the perception of identity through the eyes of a child, and landscapes in French-Canadian writing.
