- Title
Gabrielle Roy et les fondements de son "moi": lorsqu'écrire c'est se construire une identité.
- Authors
Saiz-Cerreda, María Pilar
- Abstract
The article focuses on the Québécois author Gabrielle Roy's work and how this writing reflects autobiographical elements that are either precisely auto-biographical or quasi-autobiographical. The author argues that Roy is in search of a unique identity, which is inseparable from biographical or personal avatars. It is argued that this personal history is reflective of a collective historical memory, namely the history of French-speaking Canada. The author cites the Québécois author Édouard Glissant, Roy's own thoughts on the French language and its relationship to personal identity, and Roy's thoughts on being part of a linguistic minority within Canada.
