- Title
Reviving "Eva" of The Nation?: Eva O'Doherty's Young Ireland Newspaper Poetry.
- Authors
NOVAK, ROSE
- Abstract
The article offers criticism of several poems by Eva O'Doherty, including "Hymn of the Sword," "For Ireland All," and "God Save the People." Particular focus is given to O'Doherty's role in the Young Ireland movement and her anti-British writings. According to the author, O'Doherty's militant works were originally published in newspapers and were excluded from later book-length anthologies. It is suggested that revisions to her poetry and other editorial decisions occluded her radicalism.
