- Abstract
In the first part of the paper, the definition of sloshing phenomenon is given, and its importance is emphasized in the recent shipbuilding practice. The types of liquid motion in partially filled tanks and the types of hydrodynamic loads are described. A short review of actual approaches to sloshing loads assessment is made. Further on, a mathematical model of liquid motion based on integral form of conservation law and application of the 2nd Newton's law is described, which results firstly in Euler's and consequently Navier-Stokes equations, in the form adjusted to computer application. The sloshing analysis was done for the central tank of the STENA PARIS tanker (STENA P-Max type), which was built in Croatian shipyard Brodosplit. The sloshing was considered in the cases of ship rolling and pitching, at different filling levels. Finally, the assessment of structural capability was shown to withstand dynamic pressures derived by sloshing.
