- Abstract
The article examines the electroencephalogram and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of a ten year-old with end stage renal disease on maintenance hemodialysis and admitted with pneumonia and sepsis. The result showed generalized epileptiform abnormalities, while magnetic resonance imaging of the brain showed bilateral cortical and subcortical hyperintensities involving the occipital and the parietal lobes on T2 and T2 flair images and corresponding hypointence foci on T1 weighted images. The patient was diagnosed with reversible posterior leukoencephalopathy (RPLE), which can be associated with hypertension, preeclampsia, renal failure, immunosuppression, cystotoxic drugs, connective tissue disorders, thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura, porphyria and organ transplantation.
