The Role of the Sexual Behavior/Attractiveness Schema in Morbid Jealousy.
- Authors
Dolan, Mairead; Bishay, Nagy R.
- Abstract
The article reviews the literature on morbid jealousy with special emphasis on the psychopathology. It describes a study investigating the role of sexual behavior/attractiveness schema in the nonpsychotic morbid jealousy syndrome by comparing 40 morbidly jealous and 40 nonjealous subjects. The results demonstrate significant differences between jealous and nonjealous subjects on measures of the cognitive, behavioral and emotional aspects of jealousy and support the usefulness of a cognitive model in the conceptualization of jealousy. Significant associations are observed between measures of sexual behavior/attractiveness schema and emotional and behavioral disturbance but also with a tendency to persistently misinterpret neutral situations as a threat to key relationships.
