- Abstract
Paul Robinson's book, "Russian Liberalism," provides a comprehensive intellectual history of Russian liberalism from its origins to the present. The book explores liberalism as a set of ideas and political movements that value individual liberty, a law-based state, and market-oriented economic practices. Robinson analyzes the unique characteristics of Russian liberalism and examines its triumphs and defeats throughout history, including its decline in the Putin era. Despite challenges, liberal values remain important to the Russian population, although there is a growing divergence in views on Russia's European identity.
