"My Travail's History": Perspectives on the Roads to Othello, Stratford-upon-Avon 1959.
- Authors
HOWARD, TONY
- Abstract
The article features Paul Leroy Robeson, an African American singer, actor and human rights activist who was known to have made William Shakespeare's play "Othello" a political symbol. Archives from the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) revealed that he was pursued by the U.S. House Un-American Activities Committee due to his alleged ties with the Communist Party and was prevented from obtaining a passport to play the part in Soviet Russia, London in England and elsewhere. It discusses Robeson's travails of playing the part of Othello in detail.
