- Title
The Extermination of Kennewick Man's Authenticity through Discourse.
- Authors
Coleman, Cynthia-Lou
- Abstract
An essay is presented on the role of authenticity in the social discourse surrounding the discovery of the skeleton known as Kennewick Man. According to the author, mediated discourse on the remains has effectively destroyed their authenticity. Particular focus is given to the biopolitical aspects of the discourse surrounding Kennewick Man. It is suggested that in refusing to repatriate the remains to Native peoples, the U.S. legal system privileged scientific authority over Indian ontologies.
