The apnea of the preterm infant is one of the most common problems in the neonatal intensive care unit and has a complex physiopa-thology still not well understood. It has a multifactorial origin including genetic factors but there are problems that can clearly activate it. The treatment consists of non-pharmacologic measures and methylxantines that have proven wide effectiveness.
