- Authors
Pośpiech, Agnieszka Adamowicz
- Abstract
This article explores the adaptations of Joseph Conrad's "Heart of Darkness" in various media forms, including graphic novels, film, theater, and video games. The author examines how contemporary artists incorporate Conrad's biography into their interpretations and focus on different themes. The article emphasizes the concept of adaptation as a process of repetition with variation, rather than strict adherence to the original text. It also highlights the importance of providing new perspectives and giving voice to marginalized populations in adaptations. The article includes comparisons of Conrad's portraits and the graphic novel adaptation, as well as analysis of specific panels that convey symbolic meaning. The text concludes by discussing another graphic novel adaptation that combines Conrad's life with fiction.
