Glacier estimate is on thin ice.
- Authors
Schiermeier, Quirin
- Abstract
The article discusses the report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) which highlights that the Himalayan glaciers will shrink due to global temperature changes in 2035. It notes that the uncertainty over glacier retreat has prompted India to engage on glaciological research. Glaciologist Syed Iqbal Hasnain speculates that the melting of glaciers will keep the Earth warming at the current rate. Climate, Energy and Sustainable Development Analysis Centre director Murari Lal cites that the study findings would have been significant to the whole region. Moreover, Christopher Field states that IPCC will continue to use peer-reviewed studies and grey literature for its next report.
