- Title
Powerful incentives.
- Abstract
The article focuses on the expanded loan guarantee program that dispelled the U.S. nuclear power companies on resuming the construction of nuclear power plants. Senate Committee on Energy & Natural Resources chairman Pete V. Domenici incorporated a pending energy bill that would allow the government to provide federal loan guarantees to the nuclear power industry. The 2005 energy bill offers utilities a production tax credit of 1.8 cents for every kilowatt-hour. The Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI), a nuclear power industry lobby group, claims that the industry would be ready to borrow about $50 billion to build a new nuclear power plants if such guarantees were available.
