- Title
DEMAGOGUERY, DEMOCRATIC DISSENT, AND "RE-VISIONING" DEMOCRACY.
- Authors
Goldzwig, Steven R.
- Abstract
The article presents the author's response to Patrica Roberts-Miller's call for a renewed interest in the study of demagoguery. The author provides examples of work regarding demagoguery and demagogues produced since the late 1990's. Studies on Louis Farrakhan, Jesse Jackson, and Huey Long are considered. It is suggested that the cited research presents new interpretations about demagoguery which consider culture-specific criteria, local vernaculars, and audience interpretation. The author suggests that these new considerations provide insight on democratic discourse as well as demonstrated increased participation in demagogic studies.
