- Abstract
The article examines the compositions of American jazz composer Billy Strayhorn with regards to sexuality, gender, and collaboration in the vocal arrangements. It discusses Strayhorn's recording project with singer Rosemary Clooney wherein he was given full creative autonomy. It explores the role of gay male artists in the entertainment industry in the U.S. and the queer historical and aesthetic paths in Strayhorn's arrangement of the song "Flamingo" in 1940.
