- Abstract
This study addresses issues related to the imbalance of public participation mechanisms, inadequate participation processes and platforms, and insufficient collaborative governance capacity in the micro-space renovation in Old urban Communities. By analyzing various forms of public participation, stakeholders' composition, and mechanism models in current practices across different regions, it proposes a shift in the approach to micro-space renovation from "government-led, top-down" to "government-guided, diversified participation". This transition aims to establish a collaborative model involving multiple stakeholders, including "government supervision and guidance, resident self-governance, professional support, and controlled market entry", facilitated by both online and offline participatory platforms. Lastly, the study suggests innovative policy frameworks, diversification of funding sources for transformation, enhancement of community self-governance capabilities, and the establishment of an effective closed-loop feedback mechanism as safeguards for implementing public participation.
