- Title
Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillators in Pediatric Patients:.
- Authors
RHEE, EDWARD K.
- Abstract
The article focuses on the use of implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICD) in pediatric patients. Several studies in adults with nonthoracotomy ICD systems have suggested routine postimplant ICD testing is unnecessary if there is no suspicion of device or lead malfunction, and one editorial has suggested defibrillation testing at the time of ICD implant may not even be necessary at all. At least three prospective studies have examined the stability of the defibrillation threshold (DFT) with respect to minimal safety margins in adult ICD patients. In the Post Implant Testing Study, 764 routine postimplant DFT tests were analyzed.
