- Abstract
Aim: To evaluate the clinical and epidemiological profile of CG patients treated at a reference hospital in São Luís, Maranhão. Method: This is a cross-sectional, descriptive and retrospective study based on the survey of 96 charts of patients diagnosed with GC, attended at the General Hospital Tarquínio Lopes Filho (Hospital do Câncer) in São Luís - MA from 2011 to Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS-PC) was used for the statistical analysis. The absolute and relative frequencies (%) were calculated for all variables. Results: The sample consisted mainly of male patients (59.5%), patients were stable (79.1%), were brown (66.7%), lived in the metropolitan region (55.2%) and had low schooling (60.0%). In addition, risk factors such as smoking and alcoholism presented a high prevalence in the sample, with 40% and 42.2%, respectively. H. pylori infection was confirmed (18.9%) and patients report that there are cases of CG among family members according to family history (48.3%). Conclusion: the clinical and epidemiological profile of CG patients was mostly low in tumor differentiation, with a mixed or unclassified subtype predominance. In addition, the majority of the sample was composed of patients residing in the metropolitan region and the main form of treatment adopted was surgical intervention in combination with chemotherapy.
