- Abstract
This article, titled "Editorial: Ehlers-Danlos syndrome: from bedside to bench," discusses the Ehlers-Danlos syndromes (EDS), a group of heritable connective tissue disorders characterized by skin hyperextensibility, joint hypermobility, and tissue fragility. The article highlights the genetic heterogeneity of EDS and the various pathomechanisms involved, including abnormalities in collagen genes and enzymes. It also emphasizes the need for clinical and pathophysiological delineation of the wide spectrum of EDS. The article includes reports on different subtypes of EDS, such as vascular EDS, classical-like EDS, and periodontal EDS, providing comprehensive clinical and molecular information. The findings presented in the article contribute to a better understanding of the complex characteristics of EDS and may lead to improved management and therapies for patients.
