- Abstract
This letter discusses the use of belimumab, a human antibody that inhibits the activity of B-cell activating factor, as a treatment for childhood-onset systemic lupus erythematosus (cSLE). The authors conducted a study with nine patients with cSLE who received belimumab as an add-on to their induction therapy. They found that belimumab was effective in reducing the dose of glucocorticoids (GC) in these patients compared to those who did not receive belimumab. The authors suggest that further studies on the early add-on use of belimumab in a larger number of patients with cSLE are needed.
