- Abstract
The article discusses the role that the Young Men’s Christian Association’s (YMCA's) physical education director Elwood Stanley Brown played in developing the athletic competition the Far Eastern Championship Games (FECG) from the 1910s through 1934 in Japan, China and the Philippines. The intended efforts of the FECG to bring Western civilization and American Protestantism to East Asia and the Philippines through cultural imperialism are discussed. The role that Brown played in developing physical education programs in Asian schools is also discussed.
