This research aims to identify, in the leaders' perception, which leadership styles are being used a miltary organization in brazilian northeast. The research was quantitative and the method was descriptive exploratory. The adopted research instrument was the MLQ (Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire ®) by Bass and Avolio (1993), which measures the dimensions of transformational, transactional and non-transactional leadership, along with a demographic data questionnaire. A sample of 45 respondents was used, in a non-probabilistic accessibility way. The data were treated using descriptive statistics techniques: measures of location (mean), measures of dispersion and frequency distribution and the T Test. The results showed an increased use of attributes that correspond to transformational leadership by the leaders of the organization. The results also emphasized that the variables, "number of subordinates", "level of education" and "income" influence the use of leadership styles in a discreet way.
