- Abstract
Situating Raewyn Connell's theories of gender hegemony in Angela McRobbie's vista of "post-feminist society," this paper interprets HBO comedy-drama television series Entourage (2004-...) as a significant object of study in understandings and negotiations of contemporary masculinity. It advances a new perspective on Connell's notion of hegemonic masculinity as a constantly negotiated state requiring labour and an awareness of social ideas of masculinity. Homosocial relationships in Entourage illustrate Demetriou's notion of a "hybrid bloc of masculinity." Reflecting most prominently the politics and labour of producing hegemonic masculinity, Entourage character Ari Gold is an illuminating and compelling figure in this perspective.
