- Abstract
One of the popular religious genres in the Turkish literary history is translation of forty hadith. One of the 16th century poets who has written a verse work of this kind is Şirvanlı Hatiboğlu Habîbullâh. There is not much information about his life in any of biographic or bibliographic sources. His translation -with other two works- was completed in H.918 (A.D.1512) in Egypt, and it was presented to Mamluk Sultan Qansuh al-Ghawri. His intention was to attain Sultan's attention and compliments. This translation is the second work of Habîbullâh entitled Sultan Hitâbı Hac Kitâbı. Erbaîn Söz was translated into Turkish by the poet in order to gain the reward that was mentioned in forty hadith. These hadiths translated by him exist in Abdurrahmân-i Câmî's (14141492) work entitled Hadîs-i Erbaîn written in Persian. As a result of this comparison, it has been understood that the poet benefited a great deal from the Câmî's work. In this article, firstly Şirvanlı Habîbullâh's translation of Erbaîn Söz was introduced with other works, and then the original text and it's modern Turkish translation is presented.
