- Abstract
In the Romanian town of Sibiu live Rroma communities of 5 to 20 families. According to the authorities between 70 and 75 per cent of the minimum guaranteed income is paid to Rroma families. Their housing conditions are pauper, while their health is a cause for concern because of the low hygienic conditions that they live in. Most of the Rroma people can no longer maintain a minimum standard of living. They are being overtaken by poverty more rapidly than the rest of the population. Also, in Sibiu dependence on social security system is part of the problem. For some Rroma families, it may be preferable to live on social security than on low-paid jobs.
