- Title
COGS AND MONSTERS: WHAT ECONOMICS IS, AND WHAT IT SHOULD BE.
- Abstract
Economics is a positive science, and thus insofar as an economist says "you should implement policy A" she is no longer an economist, she has simply taken on the role of a political theorist instead. (p. 82) The author is entirely correct in concluding it is the public responsibility of the economist to make the case for certain unpopular policies, for if the economists don't, no one will. It's no surprise, then, that Coyle observes economists in the public square are too confident where they should not be, and not confident enough where they should be.
