- Abstract
Early hyperglycaemia was linked to a risk of late-onset sepsis in very low birth weight preterm infants in a neonatal intensive care unit After controlling for all variables significantly associated with late-onset sepsis, namely bovine lactoferrin unexposure, histamineH2-receptor antagonists exposure, birthweight, gestational age and male sex, early hyperglycaemia retained a significant and independent association with late-onset sepsis. Abbreviations VLBW very low birth weight NICU neonatal intensive care unit Premature neonates may experience glycaemic disorders and instability due to their overall and pancreatic immaturity.
