The article examines a set of five engravings by the British artist William Hogarth, which were completed between 1736 and 1737. Particular focus is given to the depictions of night in these works. Additional topics discussed include insights on the work from the art historian Sean Shesgreen, how the works relate to British history and Freemasonry and Masonic symbols in the works.
