- Title
So who's the man behind the beard? A speculative look at a neglected painting by Anthony van Dyck (1597-1643).
- Authors
Busiakiewicz, Adam
- Abstract
The article looks at 17th-century Flemish-born painter Anthony Van Dyck, focusing on the painting "Portrait of a Man," also known as "Man with Beard," which is dated to 1630-1635 and is in the collection of the Earls of Warwick, housed at the Castle of Warwick in Warwick, England. The author presents his reasons for speculating that the subject of the portrait may have been Flemish artist Jacob Jordaens, who may have befriended Van Dyck while both were painting altarpieces in Antwerp, Belgium.
