- Title
Plans to restrict 'extra-label' use of cephalosporins in the USA.
- Abstract
The article reports that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a new rule regarding the use of cephalosporin antimicrobials in food-producing animals in the country. The rules, to be effective from April 5, 2012, will restrict the use of cephalosporin in cattle, pigs, chickens and turkeys, as it may increase risk of cephalosporin resistance in certain bacterial pathogens in human beings.
