- Abstract
The article discusses the occurrence of Bartonella bovis in a cattle herd in Italy, the first case of B. bovis to be reported in Europe outside France. Cattle on a mixed production farm in Venice were submitted in 2004 for clinical examination due to the presence of clinical signs possibly associated with exposure to chemical pollution. Blood smears of three animals showed basophilic aggregates at the periphery of erythrocytes, suggestive of B. species infection.
