- Authors
NEICH, ROGER; PARK, STUART
- Abstract
This article presents information about the carved wooden figure called Kawe from the Polynesian island named Nukuoro. The wood carving of Kawe has been kept at the Aukland Museum in New Zealand. The author presents information from an 1877 study about the goddess Kawe and the acquisition of the wood carving. The study indicates that Kawe was the wife of an island king and is the patron goddess of the Sekawe clan. A 1968 article presented more information about the transfer of the wood carving to the museum.
