- Title
Anti-AFP antisera.
- Abstract
The article discusses the production of a specific antiserum against alpha-fetoproteins (AFP). AFP is a potent immunogen when injected to another species, whereas it is not immunogenic when injected into the species from which it is purified. Usually, fetal sera or hepatoma sera suspended have been used to immunize rabbits or goats. The resulting antisera are made specific against AFP by addition of serum from healthy adults per 1 ml of antiserum. However, these absorbed antisera often contain trace amounts of antibodies against other fetal proteins and are therefore suitable only for gel precipitation methods.
