- Abstract
The article looks at the political status of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and the Christian Social Union (CSU) in Germany during the 1960s, focusing on the influence of secularization in Europe. The efforts of CDU chairman Konrad Adenauer to undermine the political power of Minister of Economics Ludwig Erhard are discussed. The author comments on the 1962 Germany elections, noting that the election campaign of 1961 exposed frustrations within the CDU/CSU over the leadership of the political party.
