Information about several papers discussed at the conference at the Munk Center for International Studies at the University of Toronto from May 12 -14, 2005 in Ontario is presented. James Retallack argued that contemporary reviewers did not fully understand the hybrid identities that shaped Julian Hawthorne's lived experiences in Dresden, Germany. Eric Kurlander compared the political culture in the regions of Schleswig-Holstein and Alsace in Germany.
