- Abstract
Introduction: Human tooth bank (HTB) is an organization equipped and licensed for the preservation and storage of dental stem cells (DSC) and extracted/exfoliated permanent/primary human teeth. It supplies intact teeth and DSCs for a variety of applications in regenerative procedures, transplants, and biological restorations. HTBs also cater to the ethical issues surrounding the preclinical training of dental students by providing extracted teeth. HTBs adhere to an array of processing procedures, reducing the risk of cross-infections. The necessity for setting up and utilizing the services of HTBs makes it indispensable to assess the knowledge of dental students about HTBs. Aim: To assess knowledge and attitude toward HTBs among undergraduate dental students and interns of Goa Dental College and Hospital. Methodology: A cross-sectional questionnaire-based study will be conducted among I-IV BDS students and interns of Goa Dental College and Hospital. A validated, piloted, printed questionnaire adopted from a 2022 study of the University of Jazan, KSA, will be used to assess knowledge and attitude toward HTBs. A selfexplanatory questionnaire with a consent form will be distributed to students willing to participate in the study. Data thus obtained will be analyzed using appropriate statistical tests and software IBM SPSS Version-21.0. Results: The study is ongoing, and the results of the same are awaited. Conclusion: Awareness campaigns highlighting potential applications, functioning, and legal protocols of HTBs may be planned among students and young dentists.
