- Abstract
The article offers information on the democratic reform through leadership of playwright Bertolt Brecht, German politician Johannes R. Becher, and philosopher Georg Lukács in the German Democratic Republic during 1956. Topics discussed include death of Brecht in August 1956 before the Hungarian Revolution; arrest and deport of Lukács to Romania for his role as Minister of Education in the revolutionary Imre Nagy government; and stripped of Becher's powers as Minister of Culture.
