- Abstract
The authors Michel Oudijk and María Castañeda de la Paz provide us with a comparison of various documents relating to a 1709 land dispute between Santiago Tlatelolco and the town and sanctuary of Our Lady of Guadalupe. After a careful examination of a number of sources and drawing on previous studies of Títulos primordiales, the Ordenanza de Cuauhtémoc and those that propose the hypotheses that the Crónica X was the basis for the early works by Acosta and Durán, they conclude that the Ordenanza and the Anales de Tlatelolco should be considered documents elaborated in the 18th century, but based on various documents still held in Tlaltelolco at that time. As evidence Oudijk and Castañeda de la Paz compare sections clearly copied from common sources. The authors emphasize the importance they attribute to the study of the creation, elaboration and use of manuscripts, since they find that the interest these manuscripts hold as messages that were constructed in specific historical contexts and for particular means may have greater implications for our understanding than the simpler question of their authenticity.
